- May 156:30 PMPledge of the Computing Professional | Spring 2025Dear UCCS Computer Science Graduating Seniors, If you will be graduating within the next 12 months from UCCS with a Computer Science degree, congratulations! This means that you are eligible to join Pledge of the Computing Professional, an elite computing organization. The UCCS Chapter of the PCP was founded just this year, and is ready to accept its first year of professionals! What is Pledge of the Computing Professional? The Pledge of the Computing Professional is an oath and rite-of-passage inspired by the Order of the Engineer. Graduates taking this oath accept the responsibility a computing professional assumes when engineering and securing software. It is an obligation to honor the profession, colleagues, and practice of computing with a high level of dignity and honesty. The Pledge of the Computing Professional was initiated in the United States to promote the notion of computing as a recognized profession at the time of graduation for students in computer science and other computing-related programs. The symbol of The Pledge of the Computer Professional is a matrix with the word “Honor” encoded in ASCII. The background of the matrix is black, the digits are in gold. The purpose of the symbol is to remind the inductee to always honor their profession through their actions. Why is it relevant to you? It is not a membership organization; there are no meetings or dues collected. It is completely free! Instead, it fosters a unity of purpose and the honoring of one’s pledge. What: Attend a one-time Pin Ceremony in which candidates accept The Oath, and receive a black and gold pin to be kept as a symbol. UCCS EAS Dean and Chairs will be in attendance! Who: UCCS Computer Science graduating seniors, UCCS Computer Science graduate students, and practicing computing professionals who graduated from UCCS are eligible to join. When: Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 6:30 PM Where: UCCS University Center Room 302. Light refreshments provided! Want to join? Have any questions? If you are interested in joining, please fill out this quick 2 minute RSVP Form. Please don’t hesitate to contact EAS Dean’s office Executive Assistant Sarah Jane Baker by email at sjbaker@uccs.edu or in person in ENGR 201 with any questions.
