After a year of vacancy, the Student Life Office has filled the assistant director position.
On April 18, UCCS hired Mackenzie Dixon to work with the student activities team to create the yearly event calendar and plan events. She will work closely with student media and Greek life which includes student-employment processes and attending Fraternity and Sorority council meetings, Dixon said.
Dixon will also take over the Clyde’s 5 program, which was put on hold this year due to short staffing in Student Life, according to Director of Student Life Noelle San Souci.
Dixon said she places a high value on student insight and feedback. “I really value seeing what has worked in the past. What doesn’t work? Where do they see themselves going? Where do they want to see things going?” Dixon said. “I’m not just going to come in and make a lot of changes just because I want to or because that’s something that I’ve done in the past.”
Dixon hopes to grow Greek life at UCCS by normalizing fraternities and sororities via small events like meet-and-greets.
According to Dixon, she has worked in student affairs since getting her graduate degree. She has experience with event planning and housing. She said that she is excited to begin working with students at UCCS.
“I think I came in at a good time of the year because it’s allowed me to see a lot of these big events like Clydechella and the ROAR awards and just other big things on campus that are important to UCCS and its students, so I can figure out a little bit more before I’m a more primary role,” Dixon said.
Students can meet more of the Student Life staff here.
