The baseball team bookended the series against Colorado Mesa after winning the first and fourth games of the series.

Neither team reached a base in the first inning of game 4, showing strong defenses from both sides, Junior pitcher Ryder Mancuso prevented Colorado Mesa from scoring at the top of the second, while redshirt sophomore outfielder James Harbison, senior infielder Caleb Chance and redshirt sophomore infielder Trevor Dale each scored runs in the bottom, 3-0.

At the top of the third, Colorado Mesa put 2 runs on the board and struck out UCCS’ first three batters to end the inning, 3-2.  Their momentum continued in the fourth as they tied the game and again quickly struck out UCCS, 3-3.

Neither team scored in the fifth.  Colorado Mesa pulled ahead at the top of the sixth, with two more runs. However, UCCS took back the lead when Chance hit a single through left field, giving redshirt senior outfielders Hayden Iverson and Kit Wigington the opportunity to run home, 5-4.

Colorado Mesa secured a four-run resurgence and shut UCCS out during the seventh inning, 8-5, and then extended the lead, 10-5, in the top of the eighth. A home run in the bottom of the eighth by graduate student infielder Caleb Stubbings brought the deficit to 2 runs, 10-8.

UCCS prevented Colorado Mesa from scoring in the top of the ninth, helping their chances to recapture the lead. Runs from junior infielder Bryce Peterson and Iverson tied up the game. Stubbings stepped up to the plate for a single that allowed junior utility player Nolan Oliver to secure the game, 11-10.

There are three series left in the RMAC season. The Mountain Lion’s conference record stands at 10-10. Their final home series begins May 1 against CSU Pueblo.
