About "Untitled" (L.A.)(1991) by Félix González-Torres Conceptual artist Félix González-Torres (Cuban American, 1957–1996) created “Untitled” (L.A.) (1991) the year his long-time partner, Ross Laycock, died from complications of HIV/AIDS. Part of his larger “candy spill” series, the piece explores identity, love, consumption, grief, and remembrance, beginning with a quantity of candy approximating the weight of a healthy human body. Viewers are invited to take one or more pieces of candy, symbolizing life’s transience, mortality, and the generosity of giving. As it is consumed and gradually disappears, the work evokes personal and collective reflections on impermanence and absence, mirroring the body’s decline and fading memories. Periodically replenished, the candy also speaks to the sweetness of communal care, enduring love, and shared human experience. By physically and emotionally engaging with the piece, viewers become co-creators, each interaction shaping the artwork’s evolving meaningHosted by: Ent Center for the Arts, Galleries of Contemporary ArtsAdditional Information can be found at: https://mlc.uccs.edu/event/11288735
