Club women’s hockey is looking for members for the Fall 2025 season.
Tatiana Krieger, a freshman studying elementary education, started the club during the Spring 2025 semester to create more options for women’s hockey players at UCCS.
Krieger says that women’s and men’s hockey have different rules, and men are allowed to be more physical. “When I came here, I asked if they had a women’s hockey team, and they said no, so I just played with the boys,” Krieger said. “I quickly realized I didn’t want to play with people who are triple my size.”
Krieger then started the club women’s hockey team, which is recruiting members. She emphasized the importance of having cheaper dues, allowing women to commit to the sport with less stress.
“The boys’ team is $1,500 for the season, and that’s pretty normal for hockey,” she said. “I’m looking at sponsors, so the girls don’t have to worry about things like that.”
To compete against local and regional teams in the fall, the club needs five more members. Krieger has organized open skates at the Sertich Ice Center to practice on the ice, and she encourages amateurs to join the team. “I’ll teach you how to skate over the summer, and we can teach you how to play the game quickly. You just have to show up,” she said.
