Spring has officially sprung, and what better way to embrace the new season than by frolicking in a wonderful, lush, green field? Unfortunately, we don’t have any of those. I have hand-selected five fields near UCCS where you could, in theory, frolic with some imagination …

These fields offer a rugged beauty with their rocky terrain, yellow grass, dead trees and somehow even sadder branches. These fields have something great for everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for reflection, allergy testing or just good old-fashioned disappointment, they all have something to offer.

This branch generously offers the University Village field some much needed nature. Even the most perfectly industrial frolic spot deserves a touch of dead branch. Photo by Anysia Hovel.

This field east of UCCS offers another texture alternative for frolicking. Who likes to frolic in grass anyway, right? Photo by Anysia Hovel.
