UCCS won against the Adams State Grizzlies, 8-4, on March 22 with a strong offensive presence in the early game and a late game that saw no runs for the Grizzlies. This was the Mountain Lion’s only win of the 4-game series.
The Grizzlies got on the board in the top of the first, taking advantage of a 2-out walk and following it up with 3 straight singles to jump ahead 2-0. The Mountain Lions wasted no time responding.
Senior infielder Caleb Chance started the bottom half with a single, and junior infielder Bryce Peterson followed with a double. Kit Wigington then crushed a triple to tie things up before an error and an RBI double from Tyler Buchman put UCCS up 4-2.
After Adams State tied the game in the third, 4-4, UCCS got back in control in the fourth with 2 quick outs. Junior outfielder Quinn Medin singled, stole second, and was driven in by a double from senior utility Mikey Brinton. Chance then added another RBI to give the Mountain Lions a 6-4 lead.
In the fifth, Buchman’s walk with loaded bases brought in another run, 7-4. One more came across in the sixth when Brinton scored on a clutch 2-out hit from Dillon Vroman, 8-4.
Joshua Zotto handled business on the mound, not letting the Grizzlies score the rest of the game, to lock in the 8-4 win for UCCS.
The Mountain Lion’s conference record now stands at 5-7. They will be on the road from March 28 to March 30 as they take on New Mexico Highlands in a 4-game series.
