As I hurried to my car in Lot 224 on the final day before break, I was struck with a terrible feeling of deja vu. This time last year, Clyde shadowed me to learn how students spend their break. That was a weird week, and I never expected to get sick and play Minecraft with my school’s mascot.

When I got to my car, Clyde the Mountain Lion was sitting in my front seat, again. I couldn’t believe my eyes as he handed me an envelope with an ear-to-ear grin.

“Hi Lillian, Clyde will join you for spring break again as part of “Project: We still don’t know what students do over break.” Good luck! – Sennifer Jobanet,” the note said.

Once again, I had no other choice but to bring Clyde home with me. This is what happened.

To kick off break, Clyde and I got dinner at Panda Express. We felt his fortune was a good omen.

After Panda, Clyde and I went to a WNIT basketball game at the Air Force Academy. He kept asking when UCCS was going to play, despite my explanations that it doesn’t work that way.

Clyde read “Sunrise on the Reaping” during break. When he finished it, he locked himself in my room and cried for hours. Clyde refused to read any of the other Hunger Games books after that.

Clyde was worried about not seeing his athletes on the Big Cat Racing team for the week, so we took a trip to the zoo to ease his troubles.

We spent Saturday watching the penultimate weekend of Kentucky Derby preps. 2024 Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna made a surprise appearance, and Clyde wanted to see what he can apply to his team. “To be the best, you need to learn from the best,” said Clyde.

Clyde wanted to play video games again, so I showed him “Red Dead Redemption II.” Defending Arthur Morgan from hungry mountain lions was a horrible ethical dilemma for Clyde.

After much emotional hardship this week from the end of “Sunrise on the Reaping” and “Red Dead Redemption II,” Clyde demanded to drown his sorrows in sweets. We made a simple but delicious blueberry and peach dump cake.
